Year 6 camp 2017

On tuesday 21 2017 september at 7 am we were in the hall waiting to go on the bus. When it was time to get on the bus we went groups at an time and had to out our big bags on an compartment in the bus. When we where finished we went on a ferry to get to kawau island. I was in mansion the other team's where katz, kawau and bentzon.


They first day we went hiking up killer hill and go to the other side. Before we went to the other side we watched hopa put an rock on top of killer hill which is a thing we do everyone year 6 camp.. When we came back we didn't do much we went swimming then had lunch. that night we watched a movie call the prince's bride pt england year six camp have been watching for 14 years then we went to sleep.
On they first day we went on our daily run, when we got back we waited for breakfast then we started our activities. The first activity I did was kayaking with mr somerville, then I went raft building, than bivouacking which is making a hut then I went sailing. After each activities we had morning tea, afternoon tea, lunch than dinner. We played a game called spotlight in the night, the teachers had flash lights and had to find us before we got onto a deck, I won twice.  


On they third day we went on our daily run again and waited for breakfast. They first mansion b (my group) was doing was concourse short for confidence course after that we did they burma trail, we were blindfolded and had to get through a hill by holding a rope then we went orienteering we had an compass too find letters and decode than into 4 words. the last thing we did was abseiling, we had to climb a ladder than hold an rope and “walk” down a wall. Than we had dinner and did a performance that we practiced for 3 days. Mansion came 4th bentzon 3rd kawau 2nd and katz 1st.


I would like to thank the people that could makes year 6 2017 camp possible. I like too thanks they parents that came along and help us with the activities.


I enjoyed doing all of the water activities mostly kayaking. I learnt to go sailing in a sailboat and how to use a compass properly.

Food review

               Minty surprise/turkish delight

If I could I would eat cadbury chocolate every day in the afternoon.

Everybody got cadbury chocolate but there were four different flavours I got turkish delight. I thought it was raspberry or strawberry because of they smell.


The minty surprise chocolate smelt like strawberry with an scent of raspberry. It's looked like there is caramel inside the chocolate. On they bottom of the chocolate it's was smooth and a little bumpy on the sides. They insides felt like jello and looked like jello and there was 4 little holes near the corners.

I think they could use an different chocolate with the minty surprise like minty surprise with white chocolate. They could add more of the mint or make it's more yum.


{L\I would recommend this because it's delicious and It cost 3.99. with scent of raspberry and strawberry

Deavay emersion assemply term two 2017

Walt: Using exciting language
On they first day of term 2 on monday we had an immersion assembly. At they hall there was a table that had a pc and different kinds of laptops/chromebooks. All the team's had a short movie to show what they were doing and what the will be learning about..

This terms topic is Now That's Thinking. Team 1/3s movie was about kites. Team ones movie was about 4 kites for matariki and four female teachers. Team threes movie was about the stars and how the got there. Team two's movie was making kites like team ones movie. Team fives movie was about fixing and they were building a garden for their class.

Team four was learning about what technology the maori people used in the before they pakeha people came. One of mr goodwin's Ideas (In the movie) was learning about a flux capacitor for a time machine. In team fours movie all the teachers in team 4 discussed what they were going to teach the kids.

I want to learn about technology and how it's works and what kind of technology we used in the past. I want to learn how planes and cars worked in the past. I also want to learn what kind of weapons maori people used in the past. I want to learn how maori people lived and what they did to entertain themselves.

I'm like the topic for term 2 but I thought it's was about drawing because there were drawings of car, people, helicopters and more. I wonder what next term's topic will be and they next thing we're gonna do.
Task description: writing a recount from the first day of term 2 on 2017. explaining what had happen and what was there. explain things the happened in the team movies and what happened in the movies .

Insect vs spider

Walt: writing about our spider and insect
BURIEL vs BLUE BACK SPIDER


In the middle of the forest, up in an tree the burial is enjoying eating bugs but out of the corner of it's eye it can see an spider just staring at the buriel without moving. The blue back spider backs away only to jump back at the buriel trying to grab it but the buriel gets out of it's way. The buriel charges at the blue black spider and rams it with his horn knocking each other off the tree.

Both of them fall to the ground but the spider grabbed on to something and the buriel just fell to the ground horn first. The buriel struggles to get it's horn free while the spider falls and rushes towards it's. The spider knocks it off it's horn allowing the burial to smash it's horn on the spider.

The buriel smashes it's horn into the spider making the spider weak than the burial stings it too kill it. The buriel started eating the spider. all that's left of the blue back is the blue blood on the ground. The buriel climbs up the tree only to be eaten by a bird.

Task description: writing a battle about insects vs a spider we made up. we had to write a problem and an ending and who won and how the problem started. last thing we had to do is add our picture of our insect and spider

2017 camp


To more days before camp and i'm excited for it. I really want to watch the movie that I voted for and I hope it's doesn't rain like before so we don't get wet or have too wake up at 3:00 in the morning. I'm nervous about kayaking because I don't know how or what to do but it's still will be fun anyways.

The things i'm excited about is the movie, it might be a movie I haven't seen before because there's only 1 movie I haven't seen. Another thing i'm excited about is the pool where going to I have been there before it's really fun but it's really cold and there's an volcano and to slides. There are two pools a indoor pool and an outdoor pool the indoor one is warn and the other pool is cold, and thes a water park.

I'm hoping for camp to be warm and sunny because it's been really cold lately and cloudy. I'm hoping we could do the kayaking because last camp my team couldn't do because the tide wasn't in and because it's was cloudy.

Something i'm nervous about is our camp dance because it's very weird and hard but we have a good chant. The group i'm in is called the presidents and i'm with three friends and I hope we don't get the least points. I don't know what things were going to do but I really want to make a fire and cook stuff again.

Deavay native birds writing

Walt: write persuasively.
Why do we need more birds in tamaki and what kind of birds do we need? We are losing or getting more of a bird, that we may or may not like. Some birds are dying because of what we do like littering or hunting because birds don't know if rubbish in the water is edible or not so they.

I think we need more kiwis because there are 68,000 kiwis but you think we don't need anymore but we lose 2% of them so we lose 20 per week. After many weeks we will lose our kiwi and they will go extinct. Some people are trying to save the kiwis by breeding them and protecting them. There are 5 kinds they are the rowi, brown kiwi, great spotted kiwi/roroa the little spotted kiwi, and the tokoeka. Threats to chick kiwis are stoats and too adult dogs so when you walk your dog and see a adult kiwi make sure you keep control of the dog.

I think their should be more bell birds because rats and stoats keep their numbers low and because they can be found in forests with low or no predators. You can help the bell birds by not throwing rubbish in waterways or storm drains and restore the bell bird habitat or take it's in feed it's well and keep it's in when it's night. You can also set traps for stoats and rats.

We shouldn't had magpies because they eat bird eggs and chicks because they are omnivores. Magpies eat beetles, seeds, berries, small mammals, small birds even reptiles. A way to protect little birds chicks, and bird eggs are too put shiny stuff near them because magpies actually don't like shiny stuff but it's believed they steal them for their nest. Magpies are also closely related to crows,jays and ravens and magpies recognize them self in mirrors.

I think it's would be better if we could see more of the kiwis and bell birds and less of magpies because bell birds are heard before found because they sing. Kiwis will go extinct after an couple of weeks and bellbirds are only found on pest free island. Magpies eat almost anything so it could wipe out the kiwis but that's just an suggestion so it probably can't. Deavay race

walt: Writing a recount
Have you raced across a field before? Well me and my class had to run across our school field.
We thought we were gonna open our Chromebooks and do regular work, but no we didn't. We  had to put our Chromebooks in a safe place put our shoes on and walk to the school field.

Mr Goodwin told us about the instructions. He said we had to sprint to one goal post back to the other, as if a lion was chasing us in the jungle. He said we need to be quiet, so we don't disturb the other classes. This meant we would not be able to scream or make ridiculously loud noises when we ran. I thought that this was weird, because why would we be yelling while running?

When our teacher Mr Goodwin told us to run me and my friend beside each other while we ran to the other side of the field. When we got to the other side we ran back to the side. When we got back we were very tired and sat down and me and my friend had a chat.

Our teacher put us in a group of 2 me and justice was in the same group. We thought we had to do more running but we were just getting a drink when we got to the taps we got a drink of water than lined back up again.

When we were done I felt tired and wanted to lie down because my back hurt. I didn't want too run across the field again because it's too tiring but it's not as long as the run. I hope you enjoyed my writing.

deavays tower of newspaper

Walt: write a recount about our experience.
Have you made a tower of newspaper? My class was making an tower with only 7 newspaper and masking tape, it's was fun. We all had to make a tower with a group of 5-7 people my group had five people.

Our teacher told us we need to be in an group so me justice awathan hopa and lepa. He said we only get to use 7 newspapers and some masking tape but when we ran out of tape we had to ask and why we needed it. We had some time to build our tower. But before anything we watched an video about teamwork. Than after we got some scissors and the newspapers and then we started to plan. We also had time to plan out our tower.

we got a sheet of paper to plan out what the tower was gonna look like and one of us was going to draw, it's was me.We had two tower plans one of them were just newspaper stacked on each other with two supporting them.The other was just news paper standing with an gap but with paper covering the gap and then newspaper on that one. We did the first one with two supporting the tower. There were other groups too one had the same idea but they didn't focus on supporting their tower they only focused on height.

When we started building our tower we rolled up the newspaper into an tube and then we taped it's to the ground. We started to roll up more and than tape it too the other and then I added something to help support it and then I added another newspaper to support it. When it's got high it's started to wobble so I added one last newspaper to help it stand and then it's stood up but the top was on an lean so we added some tape to make its stand straight.

When the time ended everyone team had to stop and let go of their tower my team's tower was high and tall and we came first. Second place was the team far from us and the group that came last was the group kinda near us just by an bit. All in the end my group came first then we put our towers in the bin, I tried to keep it's standing in the bin but the destroyed it's.
